How to Save on Produce with Price Matching

This past weekend while attending a kid’s birthday party, I had a conversation with a non-couponer.  I love having conversations with people who don’t believe in the power of coupons.  The lady that I talked to was adamant that I couldn’t save on produce.  I told her that there were coupons for produce, she could request produce coupons from companies, and she could even price match.

While there is many ways to save on produce, I like to price match sale ads from different stores and purchase produce at Walmart.  While produce at Walmart is cheaper than my favorite grocery store, Aldi has the lowest produce prices around.

Walmart Guideline for Price Matching Produce and Fresh Meat

  • For fresh produce and meat items when the price is offered in the same unit type (lb. for lb.; each for each)
  • We will match any local competitor’s advertised price.
  • We do not require customers to have the ad with them to honor a competitor’s ad.
    {It’s best to bring the ad with your or have access to the ad on your smart phone.}
  • Items purchased must be identical to the ad (size, quantity, brand, flavor, color, etc.)
    For example if Fairpay has a 8lb. bag of potatoes for $.88 and Walmart only has a 10lb. bag, they will not price match the item.

Other ways to Save on Produce

  • Purchase produce when it in season.  The produce will have a better taste and lower price.
    • Check the clearance section for produce finds.  I always purchase bananas from the clearance section and use them in my smoothies or banana nut bread.  Keep in mind that you can freeze bananas for smoothies, bread and other recipes. Check out this video on how to freeze bananas.

  • Check out your local mom and pop stores for great produce prices.

If you are like me and purchase produce each week and don’t want to break the bank or budget by going to multiple stores, go to one ~ Walmart and PRICE MATCH. Check out Walmart Price Match policy.
